This summer marked our largest Encore Strings Summer Academy yet, with 38 young musicians coming together for a week of music-making, friendship, and growth.
Hosted at Vestavia Hills Baptist Church, the Academy provided students ages 7–18 with an immersive experience in chamber music, ensemble playing, and musicianship — all led by Encore Strings Birmingham’s distinguished faculty.
We were honored that our program was featured on WVTM-13, Birmingham’s NBC affiliate, which highlighted the artistry and dedication of our students.
Throughout the week, campers not only refined their skills but also built meaningful connections:
- They met new friends who share their love of music.
- They learned to rehearse and perform as part of an ensemble — listening, blending, and responding to each other in real time.
- They were challenged to learn new repertoire quickly, sharpening their focus and adaptability as musicians.
Each day also brought inspiration from the Encore Strings Birmingham String Quartet, who performed live for the students. Works by Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Vivaldi filled the hall, alongside a lively “Name That Movie” session featuring popular film soundtracks that delighted both students and faculty alike.
The week culminated in a final concert for a packed audience of family and friends, a beautiful showcase of everything the students had accomplished. It was a joyful celebration of music, learning, and community.
Looking Ahead
Registration for the 2026 Summer Academy will open early next year — but young musicians don’t have to wait until then to make music with us.
This December, we invite students to join us for Jingle Jam 2025 — a festive one-day event where string students (ages 7+, reading at the level of a Bach Minuet and above) will rehearse timeless holiday favorites alongside the professional musicians of Encore Strings Birmingham. The day culminates in a heartwarming performance for the residents of a local retirement community, spreading joy through the universal language of music.
Registration for Jingle Jam 2025 is currently open — don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate the season through music! Click here to learn more and register.
